Surrendering your Collie

HELPFUL HINTS TO FIND A NEW OWNER FOR YOUR BELOVED PET

Please have your dog DESEXED and brought up-to-date on vaccinations before you place him/her into a new home. This ensures that your dog won't end up in a puppy farm at anypoint during their lifetime. Even if you know the home where you dog is going is a kind and loving home, there is no guarantee that if your dog needs a third home that they will not be snapped up by an unscrupulous breeder.

We also recommend that you ask for an adoption fee, if a new owner can not afford a fee they can not afford to vaccinate or give your dog Vet treatment.

Please do not place a FREE TO GOOD HOME on any ad as there are unscrupulous characters who will con people out of free dogs only to try to make a profit by selling them to laboratory research or selling them for a profit or dog fighting rings.

Always ask for their Vet's phone number and ring and ask the Vet for a reference of the person enquiring. If they have NO Vet then you can be assured your pet will never see a Vet again.

Always deliver your pet to the new home so you get to inspect the property and the environment your pet will be living in.

Remember you are the voice for your pet. It is relying on you to make the right decision.

There are many different reasons why people need to surrender their animals.

Every case is unique and everyone has different circumstances, please explore all of your possibilities before you resort to giving your pet away.

Can you hold on to your animal while a new home is found? Can someone in your extended family look after the animal while a new home is found?

We can advertise on our private adoption page for you, our service is designed to help you re-home your pet into a home you have found via our website.

If you would like to use this service simply send a photo and complete the detailed form below with a description of your dog and your contact details. A donation for this service would be very much appreciated and used towards savings more collies, but not essential.

Do you have a pet with behaviour issues?

You may think a dog cannot learn, but believe me, animals are not set in their ways. By getting some dog training and by teaching them they cannot get away with the bad behaviour they will change.

Walking a dog and socialising a dog also helps wonders.

Are you surrendering because of a new baby?

It will take your animal some adjusting because they have gone from being your number 1 baby to having to share your time. You can start training your animal before your child is born but it is never too late for training.

If you would like us to assist with rehoming you collie, or, as a last resort, you need to surrender you collie over to us, please contact us.
